STEVEN RAND
Penumbra founder Steven Rand credits his New York roots for shaping his musical tastes—a mix of jazz, Latin, and pop music. Rand, who has taught writing and literature for many years at the University of North Dakota, has performed throughout the Upper Midwest in colleges, coffeehouses, and other venues.
RON FRANZ
As a teenager, Ron Franz started taking guitar lessons during the folk revival of the '60s. For many years, Franz has performed solo as a folk singer-songwriter and with rock and country bands in the Grand Forks area. He brings to Penumbra a wide-ranging appreciation of musical genres and a solid sense of harmony.
DAVE JEFFREY
During his vast musical career, master percussionist Dave Jeffrey has enhanced every group in which he has performed, from New York to Tucson. In Penumbra, his jazz and Latin chops are on full display, creating a groove that smoothly connects the group's sound.
